Born in England, Caryn Kewell has been teaching English and French at various intervals for over 20 years in Europe and North America. She has taught both languages in Berlin, Toronto (at the University School of Continuing Studies), Montreal and now Ottawa. She speaks four languages fluently and has traveled extensively in Latin America and Europe. She also has a background in development and human rights issues, having worked for various non-government groups and coalitions in Canada.

She is also involved on a volunteer basis in her local community association, children's school, local library and hockey association. When she is not organizing or shouting at the rink she enjoys reading, going to movies and trying to learn to skate.
