Communication Skills Course
For second-language learners who want to improve their command of the language and feel confident when speaking in public. Learners will:
  • Receive an overview of all four skill areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
  • Take part in group discussions and presentations on relevant topics.
  • Take part in activities to build vocabulary and knowledge of idiomatic language.
  • Explore the impact of language on communication.
  • Appreciate the impact of culture on communication in the workplace.
   
Advanced Pronunciation Course
For second-language learners who want to improve their pronunciation and verbal communication skills. Learners will:
  • Improve pronunciation, including intonation, stress, and the rhythm of the language.
  • Practice with consonant and vowel problems.
  • Rehearse natural, relevant speech in class.
  • Practice monitoring their own speech patterns using tapes and video recordings.
   
Effective Business Writing
For second-language learners who want to improve their command of written text. Learners will:
  • Learn to write precisely, clearly and briefly for business purposes.
  • Examine different approaches for addressing an audience.
  • Learn how to master paragraph structure and reduce grammatical errors in written documents.
  • Examine writing as a process from planning to drafting to the final product.
  • Explore the impact of writing on-screen using e-mail messages.
   
Integrated Language and Culture Training
For business professionals, who aim to improve their English language communication skills and increase their understanding and awareness of Canada and Canadian workplace culture. Learners will:
  • Become better prepared for the communication challenges of the multinational business community.
  • Improve their oral proficiency.
  • Meet Canadian business representatives, including guest speakers.
